Video project Blog

The video project overall was very fun. Having the theme of separation was cool but hard to follow in some ways. From personal experience the self project sometimes fell into the video dynamic of time which was frustrating. Always asking the group “how can we do this shot without it looking like time?” but it was accomplished in the end. Shooting wasn’t that stressful, it only was because going out to party to show the other side of our school life doesn’t happen every weekend, especially since we’re either in our third or fourth year of college. Editing actually was a favorite step because with comparing it to also taking a media production class and using the software “AVID” which is really complicated, Adobe Premiere was a piece of cake to get the drift of it. Would have personally preferred to post my video on our Twitter accounts but it didn’t load so instead YouTube was the platform. Using video as a communication tool is unique and cool because it’s kind of like you’re playing a guessing game to see what the video is trying to show or tell you. Playing a guessing game is also cool because you get to see how many people in your class either understands it or doesn’t. The public nature of the personal was hard to match with the subject matter of sequence because it very much meshed with the dynamic of time which was irritating because there was no time to re film, no time to get the actors to cooperate again, no time to edit a whole new video, no time to find a new video idea, there was really just no time to re do the whole thing so, it was a matter of trying your best to make the video flow with the dynamic of sequence. Recording the personal video was a little awkward because the actors were just asking a whole bunch of questions about “what kind of class is this?”, “wtf? Why are you recording so much?”, but in a joking matter no one was actually upset it was just awkward to pull the phone out at any given moment. The story line was easy only because going out with friends was something done on the regular and it came natural, no one was told what to do. The only part that was hard was actually going out because being a junior nothing is really fun anymore and we spend most of our time in our rooms just sitting there so this time we had to actually plan a night out. Also, actually doing my makeup was pretty hard because this semester anxiety took over everything and making this video was the first time in over a month that makeup had to be done just so we could get footage and the anxiety had everything shaking, it was very annoying. On the brighter side of things, our group was really great and we had Casey who knew how to do a lot of editing and things anyway. At first our group started off with four people and later got cut to three due to people dropping the class but that actually only made things easier for us because now our video only had to be three minutes instead of four.  We had class time to film our group footage which was also a plus and we even met up after class for editing and everyone cooperated very easily, we didn’t have to pull teeth to have anyone in the group meet up because we all wanted the same thing, to get our work done! Having Casey in our group was really a plus because like I said he knew how to really edit already and he was there to teach us anything we didn’t understand in class. The process of getting everything done wasn’t hard the self video editing was pretty much done in a day and half and the group editing was done in a day. Self video editing was really fun and easy, knowing how to add color and playing with the effects was cool, really made me wish I had Adobe Premiere on my personal computer. I would say the only hard part was making everything fit in a minute because you want to show so much and have such little time to do so. Also the teaser was hard because we didn’t know what to show in just fifteen seconds. Other then all of this the experience was pretty cool I wish we went in order of what projects were due but the computers had difficulties so we jumped around with our projects. We would have also loved to see everyone’s projects but the course ran out of time, I really wanted to see the group dynamic of time project to just compare and see if the self video really looked like time. Since this is the last blog post, overall the class was dope to be in, having a 8am sucked but we learned a lot. We probably would have never thought that we were capable of doing these amazing edits and tricks in such a short time of learning them but we did. The beginning was very hard and frustrating but overtime we got the hang of things. Editing is something fun and creative now, when before it was something hard and annoying. Having a blog was annoying too because we thought we were going to do way more with it instead of just posting about our projects, thought we were going to talk about ourselves and each other instead.  The course experience was nice, well the actual work part because we learned a whole bunch of creative new things. Now we have our own wikiHow’s, personal websites, videos posted on social media, Twitter accounts and a bunch of blog posts. We got to practice not using social media which was cool. Thanks for a fun year, hopefully this course isn’t at 8am again!
